TaleSpin - Part of the 'Disney Afternoon'

Between 1990 and 1998, Disney aired a block of four cartoons known as the 'Disney Afternoon'. The show went for a total two hours. Each season, the first cartoon aired in the line up was dropped, the remaining three moved up a slot and a new one was added to make up the four.

Since TaleSpin was the first series created (presumably) expressly for this block of cartoons, I decided it was only fitting to have a bit of information on the Disney Afternoon on a TaleSpin site :)

I have to say, I believe Disney was at it's prime when it aired the Disney Afternoon, especially in the earlier 90's. TV cartoon watching was just good back then :)

Here's a (rough) line up of the shows that aired in the Disney Afternoon:

In my own humble opinion - I think the Disney Afternoon was at it's best between 1990 - 1992, when seasons one and two aired. Season two would have to be my own personal favorite - TaleSpin + Darkwing Duck are a great combo, closely followed by DuckTales in my book :)

After 1996, The Disney Afternoon ran for a further three seasons (through to 1999), but between 1996 and 1999 didn't follow the same routine of dropping the last cartoon and adding a new one - but instead added an occasional new one and brough some of the more popular old ones back:

The Disney Afternoon began and finished with it's own theme song and music, and eventually an official soundtrack was released comprising of the theme music, and also songs from the four original cartoons making up the show - Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin. It's a bit of a shame they didn't wait a year or two for the additions of great shows like Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop... These two (Darkwing Duck in particular) had unreal theme music!
